Solstice Sunrise
Our year’s shortest day dawned bright and clear on December 22, 2011.
With Mt. Hood sharply outlined against a crisp blue winter sky, the sun rose at 7:46 a.m. It was beautiful, but not nearly as dramatic as a mid-December dawning that glowed orange through the bare branches of Redpointe® Maples.
This time of year, the sun rises far to the south of Mt. Hood’s frozen flanks. We can almost measure the progress of our bare root harvest by the position of the sun’s rise over the Cascade foothills. Thanks to an extraordinarily dry December, we are ahead of schedule, with a higher percentage of the harvest completed than average.
As the days lengthen and the earth begins its tilt toward spring, we count our blessings and wish you all
A very Merry Christmas and the best of New Years!
