Musashino Columnar Zelkova (Zelkova serrata ‘Musashino’) is tailored for tight spaces. Tightly columnar in form, it is ideal for planting along narrow city streets ad other confined areas. This tall and slender tree provides welcome shade while rising above traffic to accommodate passing vehicles and pedestrians.
Small, refined leaves with serrated margins give the tree a fine-textured appearance. They are medium green throughout the growing season and turn an attractive yellowish-red to rusty-red color in autumn. This fast growing tree reaches a height of about 45 feet with a spread of only 15 feet. Recently introduced to the U.S., it is a proven performer on Japanese city streets. It performs well across a wide range of climate, USDA Zones 5 through 9.
